I’m 23! Non-alcoholic, non-smoker, vegetarian. And proud ‘sXe’!

Disclaimer: With this blog I do not want to hurt anyone’s sentiments but expecting a small change in mindset.

The world might judge you for not drinking, but you know you are awesome! - Zomato :)
Zomato nailed it again!! :)
May be this is the first blog I am writing on Me – Mr. Sanket Ravi Thodge. What so significant about writing things about me? But there is something I want the world to know and my perspective towards life. And many others who are alike me.

A decade ago in my school days, trotting somewhere between 7th or 8th standard learning Algebra, Geography, History, Science. Peak of teenage and my friends were discovering few adolescence stuff. Exploring a new erotic word in Oxford Mini Dictionary was giving a proud feeling which even Vasco Da Gama wouldn’t have felt that way after exploring sea route to India. Hormonal changes, beard/moustache, heavy voice, and attraction towards porn. Yes!! Suddenly things must have got interested for many of the readers.

That was the tender age when many of my friends started collecting DVDs, CDs of porn all over the world. Brunette, lesbian, gangbang, they felt like song genre at first. Naturally it was fascinating! Intimate for a 14-15 year old guy. Very intimate!! But a typical 14-15 year guy. NOT ALL! May be I was one of those ‘HYPOCRITE’s.

I shifted as tenant in new city Akola for my High School studies. People were carrying memory cards full of adult videos. I was generally fired a question by few of them, “Why you show no interest in porn? Don’t you feel excited?” And my usual answer used to be, “I find them disgusting.” Then there used to be huge debate for the reason why I don’t watch porn. I couldn’t convince anyone of them. This in turn was separating me from group on many instances. Left out on many occasions!

Yes!! I am posting this blog at 3:30 am
on a Saturday morning  after spending Friday
evening in writing this blog
On many instances people used to stop talking about girls just because I was around. Thinking I might get hurt. I was lucky enough to have friends who were feeling my presence.

Now I was in my graduation days. In graduation having alcohol, smoking, having non-vegetarian food was the definition of fun. And yes I was exact opposite to all this – non-alcoholic, non-smoker, vegetarian. This was enough to again detach me from being a customary average guy. I was the person from the group who prefers Frroti-Slice over Pepsi-Coca Cola. And I still am!

For many people it was even hard to believe that people like me exist in this world. I never felt like SUPERHERO or something, but felt pity of myself; am I weird to the world? Have I failed to fit into this globe? Was me not watching porn a decade ago a mistake? Can I do the damage control by starting drinking now?

But I continued being same, my conscience stood strong by me.

I am 23 now and working in an IT company as Hadoop Developer. Corporate world! Most of my friends now have money to spend lavishly; on shopping, in pubs and on their girlfriends. I am doing nothing of these things.

But yes I do charity, I bought novels to read, I help specially enabled blind friends, I spend money on an online course, I go on a bike ride!! For me definition of enjoyment stood here.

In a typical day of office I was asked by colleague, “You don’t drink, you don’t smoke. Do you even have girlfriend?” I said “No”. Next exclamation was, “Why are you staying in Pune? Go in ******* city [Won’t mention city name as it might hurt locals of that city] and spend life there?”

But this time I was well prepared, I exclaimed “Life and fun is not all about girls and drinks, there are many other things that define fun.” Colleague said, “Like what?” I proclaimed, “Travelling, trekking, reading!” with a confused look colleague asked “College is over! Who is the world reads?” I said, “Novels are there. And ya writing. That’s my favourite hobby.” I gave colleague no chance to say anything and continued, “I am third best travel blogger in India by the way. Have won three national level fiction writing competition and have got my blog featured in Times of India’s Speaking Tree column.” I smiled and with a deep breath and continued, “I have also developed my own investment model which predicts the Sensex. On LinkedIn my profile was 469th most visited profile out of 3,18,000 profiles of TCS employees on LinkedIn. Have worked with UNO, in a global event...!”

Words proclaimed by him will remain with me for years, “I am blessed to meet you in my life. Never meet a person till today. You are really talented and...” praise continued for another 5 minutes and he ended it with “...got the reason why you don’t have a girlfriend.”

A quote from Robin William's movie
'Dead Poets Society'
I, as a person would judge someone only how he/she treats his/her peers, I would never look someone in disbelief who drinks or smokes provided he/she is doing it responsibly. You have many girlfriends, be happy with that; I would never say you are a pervert. It’s your choice to have them. You drink a lot and after drinking asks your friend to drop you home in your vehicle, you earned my respect. You are engaged in gambling but also sponsoring a girl’s education, I respect you.

Me as a person would never-ever judge someone by what you eats or drinks or wear, but from your character. That defines who you are. Each of us is unique in itself. Don’t force someone to be you, just because you like being yourself.

If you still think that drinking and smoking is cool here is the list of celebrities who are sober – Bradley Cooper, Russel Brand, Mathew Perry (F.R.I.E.N.D.S), Eminem, Jennifer Lopez, Tobey Maguire (Spider Man), Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Kim Kardashian.

Celebrities who are vegetarian? Yes, I have got their list as well – Mike Tyson, Pamela Anderson, Russel Brand (again), Bill Clinton, Benjamin Franklin, M K Gandhi, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Steve Jobs, Leo Tolstoy, Leonardo Da Vinci, Issac Newton, Nikola Tesla, Shrinivasa Ramanujan, Edward Witten (founder of String Theory).

People who don’t consume alcohol, don’t smoke-tobacco-drugs are termed as ‘Straight Edge’ or sXe. Be proud if you are sXe, we are unique people left in the world.

Remaining non-alcoholic, non-smoker, vegetarian is also a challenge. Sharing some questions from Quora who faces the situation just like me –

Luna Lovegood!! < 3

For many of you may be I perfectly define definition of a HYPOCRITE PERSON!! And yes I don’t verbally abuse, don’t go to McD/Subway/Dominos/pubs and am still a virgin (better to clear air before someone judges me).

But yes I do adventure; I have done white-water rafting, paragliding, rock climbing, rappelling. Explored most part of India. Works for a NGO. Help people in need! Do writing, photography, read novels, techie nerd, sky gazing.

Learnt one huge thing in life, toughest job is not to create yourself or finding yourself but its retaining yourself; who you actually are. And I am extremely happy that I have managed it very well.

I won’t request you to skip smoking or drinking or save animals. I just want to request all of us to give every person in the world a chance to be themselves, because not everyone is the world is not strong enough to sustain their originality!! :)

P. S. Now I will be watching 'Dead Poets Society' before falling asleep. :)

On a lighter note ;) :P Found it interesting!! :)

Realm of Fury!

Let me take you to a place centuries ago. Where furious battles took place. Strategies were made. People were killed. And nature took its own toll. Read the national level winning fiction story!!
This story was written for central India's biggest cultural national level creative writing event on the topic of 'Medieval Age'. Plot is from Italy and proximity.

------

Artistic expression Pompeii Volcano in 79 AD
Eons ago in 6th century, today’s mainland, Italy, was ruled by King Adaloald, living in Herstmonceux Castle. The realm was known as Lombard. Kingdom was an early medieval state established by the Lombards, a German-speaking people, on the Italian Peninsula. Its capital was Pavia. And Naples was a distant state which was under imperial control. King Adaloald had put all his efforts to accomplish the win over Naples. But his all efforts went futile.

The Kingdom of Lombard was furnished in all vertices. Wealth was stacking. Glory was at optimum. But future was having something else in its mausoleum. King Adaloald was having great alchemists in form of Alessandro Cagliostro and Isabella Cortese.

King was intending to attack on Naples. But alchemists, in the shrine of prophecies, with the help of all their magical chants yelled a prediction. A prediction that an attack on Naples will attract the mass carnage of soldiers. And it might be so vast that it could be compared to the biggest genocide in the history of Lombard. This lead to public’s fury and rage. The Lombards were already facing theological and political differences. Both alchemists were the most reliable consultative and they never went wrong. In dread, the king ordered all knights to gather. Invasion of Viking from North and Saracen from South was another concern that influenced king’s judgment. King Adaloald was going leaps and bounds with the thought - What in the word has the power to demolish his burly army? "Yes, we are going to attack Naples", King shouted with raucous noise.

That's the amount of research required while writing on
a medieval era story! Writer of '300' movie, #RESPECT
King then ordered to arrange an assembly in his fortified huge castle. All his consultative, priests, monks, ministers, advisers, pope was accumulated with all knights equipped with techniques of sword-and-buckler and sword-and-board providing surveillance outside fortified castle.
The castle was transformed in to stealth mode. They were preparing for pitched as well as siege warfare. Lombard's army includes cavalry forces, horse riders, armours, ballista, infantry, armed knights. Belfries were getting refurbished. King Adoloald was not willing to leave a single decision for luck. He was quick-witted and had experience to use all warfare tactics. This being the reason he remained undefeated in his reign. All army units started heading towards the Naples.

King Adaloald claimed, “Our alchemists have never been wrong. What if their prediction comes true?” his voice getting sturdier. “Your highness, we are marching with the biggest infantry and siege warfare against them. Our army number can overcome whole population of Naples. I do not think we have much to worry about.” Autari, a minister, answered. Taking a sigh of relief King said, “What if we establish an alliance with our ally, Greeks? Their army is equally strong to ours...” King was in apprehension.

Thinking deeply Paul, King’s strategy adviser, said, “Highness, to convey this message to Greece and aligning their army might take a whole month. We cannot wait this long. Naples army might get stronger and they might attack us before we do.” In affirmation king tilted his neck. Interrupting this conversation Alessandro and Isabella entered the assembly. “What are you planning for now?” Isabella quoted. “We are telling you, once you enter Naples there will be no turning back” Alessandro supported Isabella. All ministers blew out laughing. For them Lombards was an insuperable power. Disappointed alchemist left the hall in disgrace.

King Adaloald remained on same stance. To attack Naples with full throttle. Breach ever building. Destroy the whole infrastructure.

Zoom out Google Map image of Italy and proximity.
The army was so large that they have to chop the whole forest to build strong arms, ballista, spears, and also for burning fuel. Food was required in so huge number that the tonnes of wheat, meat and grain ration they carried along them were falling diminutive. And if the whole infantry uses their bow-arrow it could eclipse the Sun. It was burly army.

The whole troop was encroaching in Naples’s proximity. King and all his advisers, scholars were drafting their strategy to attack on Naples. Isabella and Alessandro decided to boycott this meeting.

Paul explained, “Beside Naples we have Mount Vesuvius, which is a stratovolcano. It has not erupted since 79 AD. Instead of attacking from north-north-east we should firstly capture Pompeii. Pompeii is a small state in south-east-east of Mount Vesuvius. We can send one-third of army to capture Pompeii.” Another adviser, Bavarii interrupted Paul saying, “But this will disrupt the strength of our army.” “Exactly, they too will think the same. Instead, our two-third army on north-north-east will remain in stealth mode. We will attack only on Pompeii. This will give Naples an illusion that we are attacking them from south-east-east. And they will divert their army towards the south-east-east. Taking the advantage of this situation we will attack Naples from north-north-east. In disruption they might fail to revive their strategy and we will win.” Paul was known for his intuitive mind. And this strategy was much convincing for King Adaloald. “Paul, you are the best strategist, our kingdom has ever produced. You will be endowed with golden coins once we are back in Pavai.” Paul’s heart fulfilled with the proud.

Political map of Lombard (493-553 AD )
Following this strategy, troop was divided. One-third of them were diverted to attack Pompeii. Sparse population, degraded infrastructure, slavery were the features of Pompeii. Cannon, catapult, sling, crossbow, longbow were used. Lombards very easily captured Pompeii. One-third of the army was a large troop for Pompeii than two-third of Lombardian army for Naples.

The news of acquiring Pompeii by Lombards reached Naples instantly. Till now the predictions made by the alchemists seem a distant myth. May be this was the first time alchemists' predictions were going fallacious.
The Lombardian’s trick worked and Naples was preparing to send their strongest troops to fight against Naples. King Adaloald happily said, “We will march tomorrow on Naples.” But it seems nature was having a surprise in its tomb.

BOOM!! BANG!! The thundering sounds stroke everyone’s eardrums.  For few seconds Lombardians went dumb and they thought they had been attacked by Naples. The sky was covered with dark clouds. It started raining, but of ashes. Loud thundering. Sky was so dark that it was replicating night amidst sun overhead. Breathing became harsher. Calling someone was impossible. Visibility was minuscule. Land developed wide cracks. Intense hot lava was pouring out of earth. King went eccentric over this situation. Their attack was postponed for indefinite time. Mount Vesuvius erupted with all its might! Puking hundreds of tonnes of ashes and lava in air. Many soldiers were killed in this catastrophe. Two-third became one-tenth of two-third now.

Though Naples’ army was undersized, they were quick on field. With less warfare goods and conversance with the milieu favoured them. Naples on the other hand utilized this opportunity and demolished Lombards in Pompeii. And shortly realized the intention of King Adaloald. King Adaloald was unaware of these logistics that King James Junior, king of Naples had in his mind. King James Junior was having precise knowledge of every sand grain of this region. He had scholars who can predict the direction of winds which will carry ashes. Very soon he sent an infantry of troop from Naples and he himself went with another infantry to attack the Lombards from Pompeii. Though King James Junior had a small troop, but unpredicted attack and unfamiliar circumstances lead to defeat of King Adaloald. King Adaloald surrendered him to Naples and thus Lombard became part of Naples. Except Isabella and Alessandro all were imprisoned and then they became alchemist of Naples.

Happy New Year!! :)

New Year, wish you all a very happy new year!! Season’s greetings!!  But what is so special about this day? Sun rises in east. Birds tweet. We are no younger; but get older by a year and still celebrate. We breathe the same air. Follow the same law of Physics; had Newton been born in this era Apple would have fallen on his head and not elsewhere. Nothing so special about this day. So, if practically thinking then there can be no reason for this great celebration.

Happy New Year © Sanket Thodge
I was part of those billion people from globe who go insane and save millions of money by wishing ‘Happy New Year in adv’ – as if next person do not know the date. Then I gave a thought on this. This was the inquisitive me; thinking hard – this is what I do in my spare time ;).

Many a times I found human being so insecure regarding their feelings, their aims, and unworthy their life. Yes, I too do feel insecure, unworthy many a times. So, maybe that is the reason for inventing Friendship Day, Parent Day, Valentine Day, Teacher Day and the list continues.

These days were not written somewhere by Mayan Civilization 100 centuries ago neither by found in Egyptian Mummies. They were all decided by human itself. These days too are very similar to New Year Day. It is not like we have friends around us only on Friendship Day; not far from us more than a call, they are available 24*7 for us. Valentine Day – sorry no experience :P. We do not require a special day to show our parents how much we love them, we can show them on any ordinary day. But then I again thought a little deeper. And got the answer which I think was sufficient to extinguish my quench.

May be these days were rightly decided to help all of us humans to explain our feelings, our thoughts, our ideas, our creativity. Birthday – the best day we can remember the whole year and also most awaited day for any individual. Gifts, surprises, call for the whole day, everyone treating us like VVIPs. Nothing special actually happened that day, we were born some decades ago and became part of another 1 person in the tally of 7 billion people. How can this be anywhere close to special? But still we found our self special; not because it is our birthday but because of our beloved persons’ wishes coming all day. These can be very special. Cherish able and mesmerizing.

Then what is there so special about New Year? (I always try to find as possible as many questions in one go). We generally have a habit of making resolutions for every year (and most of them end-up unaccomplished even on 31st Dec on same year). May be is the best way to celebrate New Year. We may revive our past targets. May be we could make our wish-list of what we will be doing this year that we could not last year and may be to establish stronger bonds with our old friends. Some things might have missed in the previous last year, we can think about them this year.

We are greeting everyone for the New Year. In our contacts we suddenly found a person whom we used to text/call regularly couple of year ago. One of the very close pals. But then on the journey of life somewhere our paths diverted and we lost the contact. And with all these thoughts in mind we ‘Send’ the message. In minuscule of the time we receive ‘Thank You buddy and miss you’ text from the person and in the emotional cum nostalgic flow we call the person. After a couple of drouth years in communication we end-up talking an hour or so and still continue. The past missing bond just got stronger. Yes! You have celebrated the New Year in the true passion, true spirit. What more can we demand from life?

We can even make a checklist of what are the things we want from this year. May be you want to reduce few kilos of weight or maybe wanted to learn a new musical instrument. This gives us an opportunity to make us more proactive and intuitive. This shows that down the lane we are humble and our thirst in unquenchable; at least for this year. Then we can use sticky note to put them on the wall and watch them regularly to revive our plans.

We do not do this in Feb or July or December. 1st January is the best time for this. This is what I think is the true spirit behind celebrating a New Year.
We cannot celebrate Friendship Day on Valentine Day (unless you are dumped in friendzone by your potential girlfriend :D ), we cannot celebrate our Birthday sitting beside our bungalow terrace alone; friends, family need to be there.

Day cannot be made memorable with respect to date or past events,
But it can with what we do on that day!!

So, I wish all of my friends cum readers a very happy and prosperous and amazing and fantabulous and awesome and grandiloquent and bombastic and (add your adjectives) New Year. I hope this year is the best year you have ever lived. And hopefully you check all resolutions on your checklist by year end. I will love if you too wish me the same. I won’t mind if you copy-pasted it in the comment section.
May be a situational song from Aisha movie would be pleasant to hear -

Sham bhi koi jaise hai nadi
Lehar lehar jaise beh rahi hai
Koi ankahi, koi ansuni
Baat dheemi dheemi keh rahi hai
Kahin na kahin jaagi hui hai koi aarzoo

Suhani suhani hai yeh kahani
Jo khamoshi sunaati hai
Jise tune chaha hoga woh tera
Mujhe woh yeh batati hai
Main magan hoon par na jaanu
Kab aane wala hai woh pal
Jab haule haule dheere dheere
Khilega dil ka yeh kamal

Bhimkund Trek-Baap of all treks (Alias Uttar Khali :D)

Hello everyone! A blog after long Time. Sorry for keeping you on hold for so long. Again it’s about an awesome trek, or may be the best one I ever did. To the foot of Bhimkund waterfall.

FLOCK of  21 sheep + 22nd me in and as Shephard :D :P © Sanket Thodge
It was kind of usual start. Woke-up at 0505 hours. Reached at Oja’s home at 0605 hours and by 0620 hours I, Sanket Chandak (a.k.a. Camel) and Ojas Kale were on Amravati bus-stand. Haha! No we Didn’t planned for MSRTC’s ‘lal-dabba’ but organisers (Kartik Wat, Hemant Thete Dada, Kedar Pawgi dada, Kedar Joshi dada) had already arranged two Travelers for us to comprise in. Meet Kartik, Kedar P dada, Ashwin Nimdeokar, Shaunak Ganorkar, Swarali Godbole, Sampada Thorat and Anuja Savsundar. We (Me, Camel, Kartya, Sandeep Dada, Kedar P Dada, Anuja, Sampada, Swarali, Oja, Ashwin, Ankya, Shaunak, Amey Sadar and Aalok Alsi we were all settled in traveler. Other traveler was carrying Uday Jangid, Rishabh Khandekar, Tejas Khawalkar, Kunal Khadse, Ravi Waghmare, Vaibhav Randhai, Rashmi Aglave, Oshin Chetule, Apurva Deshmukh and Vaibhav Jaiswal. Soon our buses were traversing through crisscrossing road and we were in Chikhaldara. Swarali, Ojas, Shaunak and I were sharing our experiences previous treks. Continuous jibber-jabber. Topics ranging from snow on Chikhaldara plateau to how we can prevent Global Warming were discussed.

Reached at the pedestal of two huge Suzlon 10000 windmills. The watchman took us by surprise and came baffling to us as what in the world brought us to this barren land. We were enjoying his animated expressions while having delicious guava (though they were raw). This was a complete blind trek, no one knew about the exact destination, path and hurdles of trek (except organizers and their best buddies B)). The climate was not expected, it was bright sunny day, cloud patches at visible distance and rain showers for few minutes. Certainly not best for trekkers. With a ray of hope of getting a cloudy sweat-free day we marched on our way; destination being a paheli. Each step was refilling adrenaline in blood. BP obviously above normal. Heart beat pacing up.

A big group of 29 people was making their way through woods; few from Pune, few from Nagpur, many from Amravati. Kedar Dada and Sandeep Dada were leading from the front, whereas Hemant Dada and Kedar P Dada was handling the rear part of the flock (why I used this word? You will get it in the later part of blog :D) so that no one is left behind.

Kartik and Ankush as usual were the busiest one taking the photos...ours’, locations’, landscapes’, birds’, sometimes their own and each and every microbe then find in the way (am glad they can’t see amoeba and paramecium for this reason). Awkward and weird poses were posed by all of us.

Reached a location! It was complete misty. Visibility was sparse. As the mist reduced we witnessed ambience, it was like Mother Nature was embracing and welcoming us. There was a bombastic valley, amidst lavish green forest, numerous waterfalls eroding hills with gushing sound, and mobs of people at a very long distance reminding as the people from Jonathan Swift’s novel Gulliver’s Travel...and obviously we too were FOR THEM! Exactly beside them was Bhimkund Waterfall a.k.a. Kichakdari; among the highest waterfalls in Melghat. And an announcement was made, “We are having our trek to the base of Bhimkund waterfall. Then we will have our lunch there. Then we will carry-forward our self from steep cliffs, ridges, cracks and will reach in Govilgad Fort climbing those hills. Our travelers will be waiting for us there.”
Someone’s mouth popped open, someone’s eye bulged automatically, some were uprooting their head hairs and fewstroke their forehead with palm. I felt blessed! Unluckily those expressions were not captured from Ankush’s and Kartik’s lensesl! And then the remaining strategy was revealed. It was not just this, but we were also supposed to iterate up to the fort of Gavilgad where our travelers will wait for our arrival.
Plan was nice and I too loved it. That was the exact moment when I realised...Sankya boss today is the day of optimum performance warna naak kat jayengi. I tightened my belt, tied shoelace, gulped a barrel full of water, did some pushups, meditation for a few minutes and took a deep breath. I was ready. We again continued our trek.

Landscape view © Sanket Thodge
Crossing few small streams, surpassing many cracks, pressing the monsoon grass cover we were heading ahead before a heavy jolt which strikes us fiercely. To carry the trek we have to cross a drop of 120-150 feet (drop in trekking terminology is steep cliff made of rocks...almost 90 degrees in vertical). It is next to impossible to subside without any support. And it was the first impediment for all of us, but our logistics department was well prepared to handle this vault. All the Dadas started to tie the knot to a well rooted tree and then one end was left afloat to descend downhill atop. This process is termed as rope-rappelling. I saw Vaibhav all tensed. His mouth dried-up instantly, no doubt!
Meanwhile we were introducing ourself to each other. This was an overall third track of mine and a second trek with Kartik, Oja, Swarali, Ankya, Camel, Apurva, Shaunak, Hemant dada and Kedar dada. It was already 1100 hours by now and the sun was shining with full luster. The rope was tied tight and Shaunak was our test mannequin. His experience and weight was the major factors that made him most eligible person for this job. And surprisingly he descended comfortably.
I bid adieu everyone saying-dua mein yaad rakhna yaaro! And murmuring song -

Ek tu hi bharosa
Ek tu hi sahara
Is tere jahan mein
Nahi koi hamara
Ishwar ya allah
Ye pukar sun le
Ishwar ya allah, he daata

I was in-situ; on the ground safe and secure. Then one-by-one all of us overleaped cliff. And with that we were below the Chikhaldara plateau. Actual trek began here. It was only me, Ojas and Swarali underneath everyone else.

But then we decided to keep heading and then take rest somewhere where all can gather and then continue our trek. After taking few steps I found two shadows in the bush. I was so excited to see them that I went on running very carelessly (more of like captain Haddock from movie The Adventure of Tintin in scene where their plane crash in the Baggar) and all of a sudden...BANG!! BANG!! I was on my bum...not once but twice. This turned out to be the best gag for those two damn shadows, Oja and Swarali.

Kedar Joshi Dada © Kartik Wat
Then there we kept on doing all the jabbering. After some span Camel arrived, then Apurva, preceding Oshin, Tejas and Amey. We were then guided by Kedar J dada to next destination where we again continued our talks. It was 1200 hours by now and still many were yet to cross the cliff. Meanwhile Ravi had a near death incident which is I am very sure will haunt him till He become grandfather and he will have a nice story for eons. LOL! While jumping off the floor a rock...literally a big loose rock lost its clench from the ground and went sliding down the hill slope. I was watching Ravi and then that rock..back to him..then again rock. Then again Ravi, by now rock was disappeared in forests and I got ample time to see his expressions. His face went white; I seriously doubt he might have even had a mini heart attack. It took some time for him to get back to normal and bring back all senses.

Now we were at the place where we can lay down and take rest while others climb down the cliff. It was covered with few inches of grass and dried bushes. I remember some lines from a song-

We were enjoying that serene time. Amidst nature! Hills playing the barrier for telecom network coverage. Trees endowing us with pure air. Very small vibrant color butterflies sitting on our sacks. The waterfall was making the gushing sound. Few birds hovering overhead. Breeze was bending grasses in rhythm. It was like a fight between them; one second grasses were bending to the ground and next second they were coming fighting back to stand straight. Far away from all the small-big issues that I normally face on daily basis. I was deprived from all of them. For now it was just me, and a bunch of new friends. Tried to have a power nap. But within a few minutes all landed safely and arrived at our current destination. Itinerary Kartik witnessed Bamboo Pits viper snake and Rishabh Green Keelback snake. Luckily they. Had some photo session and again headed towards our prime aim-Bhimkund waterfall!!

Our flock was again controlled by Sandeep dada and Kedar dada from front and Hemant dada and Kedar P dada from behind. But a time-bomb was tic-toking overhead. Mother Nature liked hallucinated us and while hugging her we forgot that she also teaches us lessons; that's so hard way.

We were supposed to follow Kedar dada and Sandeep dada. The aisle was very small; it was hard to guess the pathway. And in all this we all people missed Sandeep dada’s and Kedar dada’s footmarks who were heading us. We kept on moving straight and straight and straight. We didn’t realized it until we reached a big waterfall. Then Ojas uttered words, “Apan harawalo!!” (We are lost!) I tried to excavate if there is any fact in his verdict, it turned out to be true. Now you got a reason for using word FLOCK. We were those sheep from Shiksha.com’s advertisement where everyone follows one person without thinking any deeper!! But seriousness was miles away from us. Some were playing with water, some were having their tiffin (without asking me whether I want it or not :@) and Tejas even went down a few feet in search of way to the river alongside waterfall, Oshin was calling him back. Anuja and Sampada not even realized they are lost. Shaunak was still brain draining what to do next? The camel was tired! But then combined decision was taken that I and Ojas will go in search of all Dadas and then rescue ourself from ourself.

We both started shouting ‘Aeee..Oooo..’,’AeeeOooo…’. As per trekking guide book this sound travels longest of distance, thank you Advait Keole for this knowledge. We were shouting Aee..Ooo.. and very soon our Eardrum was struck by a whistle. Then like the Sherlock Holmes we took out a magnifying glass and started searching if we can find any evidence of our Dadas. We were nearing them and BINGO; they were just in front of us. But erubescent. Iron red! We sensed the danger and explained the entire situation in one breath.

In the next 5 minutes all were backtracked. Backtracking’s concept from my engineering subject was finally understood by me after this practical experience. Then we continued our trek river bed. It was a very big relief for all of us watching fresh stream of water flowing down the round and slippery stones leading to creation of small bubbles. One step in water, then second, then third and before I take fourth I was drenched in chilled stream water. Everyone was splashing water on one another. All got wet. It took no time for us to lie down in the water and let all fatigue flow away with the stream. It was the ultimate feeling of happiness for all of us. Rashmi did have special time with us. We all were complete strangers to her. Then some double-meaning fun. ;) And the idiotic suggestion like having lunch in the river were surging. It was 1430 hours, and all were feeling the elephant appetite in their stomach. As soon as every individual opened their tiffin beautiful aroma encapsulated whole environment dominating even natural soil aromaChabarr..chubarr..karamm..kuramm..!! Everyone was gulping all edible they can have in one morsel. In no time all finished their food.

After lunch now we have to finalize our return trek. We were now left with two options. Either to follow the same plan:
A] Climb the hill to Gavilgad Fort and then to Traveler and then home. Less distance but more physical work.
B] Or backup plan was to follow River and we will be out in a small village named Baglinga where we will call our drivers and they will pick us from their back to Amravati.

Now again I tightened my belt, tied shoelace, gulped a barrel full of water, did some push-ups, meditation for a few minutes and took a deep breath. I was ready. But this time for Tug-of-war. I was from the side to retain with Plan A while few of us were so fatigued that they insisted on Plan B. I lost the battle. I should have had lunch. Shit!! But that was the decision taken.

The plan changed and we were following Aadh river. We then witnessed some fantastic dives from Swarali, Ojas, Kedar P dada, Kedar J dada and Kartya in river where water was not shallow.
River was in the foothill; thus flowing in a zig-zag manner. It was the penultimate time that we have to surpass river. No one of us was willing to travel back home in wet shoes. So, we were taking support of slippery stones to cross rivers.

Amidst river there were two stones separated at a reasonable distance which can make an individual think a hundred times before taking jump over it. Difference of an inch and you are drenched head to toe. Me, Oja, Swarali, Camel and Kunal...we successfully crossed it and then came me in the picture. I thought of ending trek with some gags. So, we decided to conduct a competition. We collectively came with decision that everyone behind us has to cross the river without removing their shoes and handing their bags to us. Simply take a jump from those two stones without getting wet, along with the bag.
Our first participant was Tejas, he succeeded.  Then Oshwin, she as well. Similarly many were. We thought our plan failed. Our moral were abased.

Ashwin crossed half of the river and he was supposed to cross just one stone. Anuja hastily followed Ashwin and Sampada followed Anuja. Thus roads for Ashwin to backout were already diminished. He gave a thousand thoughts of how, when and where to jump. Imagined the perfect scenario. Wherein Oja was trying to woo him to throw his bag at him. But then I shouted, “If you ever throw your bag, then you will fail trekking test. You won’t be eligible for next trek!” I uttered these words so intensely that his hand over bag went off furiously and he again started working on how, when, where. Even NASA would never make such tough calculations. He finalized his jump, folded his legs a little, launching himself and SPLASH!! He was drenched in water. Both legs in water and one hand on stone. Our plan finally worked out. But Anuja and Sampada were still on hold. Sampada then decided to hand over her bag to us. Where I again put my whole energy in opposition. But again they having lunch were making a difference. Sampada gave her bag to Anuja and Anuja threw it with all might she had… and SPLASH!! The bag was in the water and Sampada shouts “Mobile!! Mobile!!” it was Ashwin again and in action-to-stimuli to catch the bag he slipped and SPLASH. Back to the Water. Double Dhamaka!! This was not expected at all. Then Anuja and Sampada followed quite well. And finally Uday came in handy. Whereas Kartik and Ankya cheated by coming through the river. They will be out of our next trek for sure.

After a walk of another 3-4 kilometers we were in a small village named Baglinga where our Travellers were destined to come. All of us gathered in the ZP school’s premises. First of all we thought our fun was finally over and we were reviewing the photos. And then there was chota packet bada dhamaka!
Out of no where an old lady around 60 came; she was quavering, she approached us. And was asking something in a very vague language. It was just a matter of time when we found out she was drunk! She came like rain in our desert, wave of vigor charged through us. Kartik was the first one to converse. He was not sure what language to use, but decided to converse in Marathi! We started with moderate questions like what are you doing here? What are the good things about this village? In no time our train of topic left its track, we asked her what is the age limit like for marrying? She was so drunk most of her words were not making any sense, and that was the best part of it! Mocking the drunk person is one of Oja’s favorite pastime.

"Aap kabhi Gawilgad gaye ho? Have you ever went to Gawilgad?" Ojas asked her.
"Haa ha gai hu na , bohot bar gai hoo. Yes, I have. Many times." she spoke with a puff of wine smell.
"Bagh wagre dekha hai udhar? Ever came across tigers in their?" Ojas interrogated.
"Bohot bar dekha hai, aap chalo mere saath mae dikhati hu apko. Certainly, many times. You come along with me; I will show you." with a blushing smile on her face. We all guffawed.
"Maine suna hai upar kile pe ek mandir hai kali ma ka, waha amavaski rat bhot log gae n wapas nae aaye? I have heard that top hill on fort there is a temple of Goddess Kali Mata. On the Night of new moon many people was missed?" we all were giggling.
"Nae nae aate hai na log wapas. No. No. People do come back." she didn’t understand the intent behind the question. "Aate hai na wapis Dusre din aajate suba. They do come back on succeeding day." now she had lost it.
"Matlab daru pike so jaate hai wahan n dusre din aajate nasha utarke aisa nae bolra mae, mae to bhuto n pisacho ke bare me puchra hoo. I don’t mean like people get drunk and next day arrives after hangover, I am talking about ghosts and witches." Ojas continued and we were following it.
This bold word even embarrassed her, we all laughed hard! "Bhoot vagre kuch nae rehta. Sab zooth hae aap chalo to saah. Sab dikhati ho. 20 Rs lungi sirf. There are no things like ghosts. It’s all myth, you just come along with me. I will show you everything at 20 Rs." she said angrily!
That was the point when we realized her scheme to be there with us was extracting few bucks! I don’t remember exactly how but Kartik cajoled her into saying "Indira Gandhi mere sath utri hai Gawilgad see. Indira Gandhi had rappelled down Gawingad with me." that word of her were the sheer entertainment for us!
Then we took her photos. She turned celebrity for us!

And then we bid adieu village and decided to move-on to wait at that village’s bus stand. Our Traveler was supposed to arrive at the same location. This was turning to be a long wait for us. 1900 to almost 2100 hours we were surrounded by dark. Most mesmerizing the scenario was when glow-worm started showing up for every two seconds. The light they were producing was much of the pleasurable for eyes. We all were astonished to see it. I and Ojas were faded-off of all the waiting period, so we decided to have a small post prandial stroll. And in no time our Travelers arrived. We climbed voraciously and grabbed our seats. Ravi might be one of the most satisfied persons of not falling a single time and completing trek 10/10.
Reached our respective home by 2300 hours!!

This has been the best trek I ever had. Third trek and it was just more than awesome. More the number, and better the people! Our trekking group is increasing leaps and bounds. I won’t doubt that one day our trekking group will climb Mt. Everest. And am very optimistic about it. :) :)

Thank you guys for accompanying and especially to Kartik, Kedar Pawgi dada, Kedar Joshi dada, Sandeep dada and Hemant dada for arranging such an awesome trek. Awaiting for such next fantastic treks. :)
